Sacramental BDSM

» BDSM Psychology

I was thinking about the original ethnological meaning of fetish as an object possessed of magical power. And that the bread and wine of the Christian communion service are objects that are part of what in theology is called a sacrament: a right that evokes divine grace. Communion as the name implies is communing with Christ.

This is why in my prior relationship I thought of boot worship as akin to a sacrament. It wasn’t satisfying some innate craving to taste PVC or leather. For me it was the visible form of a loving power exchange. When I licked her boots I was both passionate and attentive. I pressed my tongue hard against the surface because she was so sensitive that I was in effect massaging her and was rewarded with all the happy responsiveness of a more conventional massage. And I was slow and meticulous because I wanted to express my devotion with perfect performance.

During these times boot worship was a sacrament of power exchange.

There’s nothing wrong with performing an act to scratch a kinky itch. But for some people - at least in certain relationships - behavior becomes a transcendent experience. Not that I couldn’t enjoy licking the boots of a kind stranger but in the right context it becomes something of greater emotional quality.

So I wonder how many people indulge their fetishes strictly for erotic satisfaction? How many invest more refined and complex feelings in the experiences? Not that either mode excludes the other.

Are there things that you do that give you more than purely sexual exaltation?

I was going to say no at first, but then I thought of the type of clarity that comes with meditation. I do experience that sort of clarity when I’m performing (non-sexual) service for a top. It’s submission, definitely, but there’s something in it that brings me out of myself the way that meditation does.

Wow. That’s very beautiful…and very hot.

If I do casual play with a friend, then it’s mostly a sexual vibe, even though there’s no sex. But in a relationship, it’s about more than that. It doesn’t feel religious to me, but there’s definitely some sort of added emotion/feeling/state/thing. Most bdsm provides intimacy and an emotional connection in a relationship. It’s a way of showing how I feel as well as something that brings us closer.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Sacramental BDSM. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
