Titles and Honorifics

» For Tops

Some - most? - dominants chose a title by which they are addressed by submissive persons. Examples:

  • Baron(ess)
  • Domina
  • Goddess
  • Lady
  • Lord
  • Master
  • Mistress
  • Owner
  • Queen
  • Sir

Tastes in titles and honorifics are certainly subjective. Though I must confess smirking when someone uses a title that makes it sound as if they’ve spent too much time playing historical fantasy games.

Some women opt for Ms or Miss. I don’t know if I’ve heard of a man choosing to be called Mr. That could certainly be depersonalizing for the bottom if he or she normally addresses you by your first name. Some - amazingly enough - simply continue to use their everyday name.

If you use an honorific but only in scenes is it to distinguish scene space from ordinary time together? Does a title energize or empower you? Or is it a tool to remind and encourage the bottom of his or her submissive role?

Sir is said to have become common among the Old Guard because of their military experience during WWII. Is your preferred title a cultural or personal reference? Do you find some honorifics polluted, say, because of their frequent use by professional dominatrices?

My thanks,
